I found that if I had no soda in the house, I really wouldn't miss it, though I occasionally drink it when I go out. Most of the time the cheapskate in me wins, however, and I get water with my meal.

If it's not available, it's a *very* attainable goal. I might try a different tactic than "only on the weekends" though, because then you'll have it in the house for the weekends.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792307050609117515.post-69348929863050294552008-02-27T18:06:00.000-06:002008-02-27T18:06:00.000-06:00I stopped drinking soda for Lent, and I don't real...I stopped drinking soda for Lent, and I don't really miss it. I've switched to unsweetened iced tea, but I have to admit I use artificial sweetener. I put it in my coffee, too. As for not eating sweets during the week--well, I'll think about that after grad school is over. I'm willing to make an argument that my daily sweet treats are what keep me off of hard drugs and malt liquor.Tim Siskhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17308385463977574600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792307050609117515.post-32093209246987874312008-02-27T10:56:00.000-06:002008-02-27T10:56:00.000-06:00Interesting "diet"...I like it! Some of the stuff he talks about reminds me of Pollan's writing (whom I adore), so if you have a chance and are interested, I'd recommend The Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto.

Soda can be rough to get rid of--it's addictive and pernicious stuff (I'm totally with Justin there!) But it's also bad for your health in many ways. I've discovered that once I quit drinking/eating anything with fake sugar, my system can no longer tolerate it, and I feel bad if I do. So no more diet soda (or Crystal Light To Go) for me!Jennhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05084587831359116469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792307050609117515.post-54547456820354547042008-02-27T09:55:00.000-06:002008-02-27T09:55:00.000-06:00My father stopped drinking soda completely a coupl...My father stopped drinking soda completely a couple years ago because of the same reasons. And his central axis, so to speak, shrank immediately. He couldn't completely make the shift to water, so he's addicted to Diet Snapple, an amazing concoction if you check out the nutrition facts.

Good luck!Michelle Underwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07245354065549569289noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792307050609117515.post-18694637683138830982008-02-27T05:16:00.000-06:002008-02-27T05:16:00.000-06:00I was a Coca-Cola fan for years. After I graduated, I slowly phased all cola out. These days, I drink mostly water, milk and OJ.

I rarely snack, but when it comes to seconds, if I'm still hungry, I go back for more.

I want to ask though: do you consider Red Bull soda?Eric Grubbshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08237140729566147948noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792307050609117515.post-58624052272085834242008-02-26T22:26:00.000-06:002008-02-26T22:26:00.000-06:00I used to be hopelessly addicted to Wild Cherry Pe...I used to be hopelessly addicted to Wild Cherry Pepsi and Coca-Cola. But one day, I decided to stop drinking sodas. And it only took a week or two before I realized that soda really sucks. All that carbonated fizziness that goes down so smooth but leaves you with a sickeningly syrupy aftertaste for hours and really bad breath...you can do without.

There is so much better stuff out there: tea, lemonade, cranberry juice, French-pressed coffee, gin... Don't think of it as giving up soda. Think of it as upgrading to something that isn't the funk. Do you really want to drink industrial sludge?PossumCrepeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08872537258030257459noreply@blogger.com
